History
The D models were introduced at the Paris Motor Show in October 1955. They caused a stir amongst visitors but also a certain amount of bewilderment as the avantgarde design with a wealth of technical innovations was simply sensational. The D model was the first time that a central hydraulic system had been used in a production vehicle for the suspension, steering, clutch and brakes. The standard version, known as the DS, was supplemented by a simpler variant, the ID. Citroen used a play on words when naming its vehicles. “DS” is pronounced in French as “Déesse” (goddess); “ID” is pronounced as “Idée” (idea).
The Citroen DS was in production for just under 20 years. In total, almost 1.5 million vehicles were built.

Except for finding the key box, where I had to rely on outside help (I kept looking for a Rent a Classic sign) and that the key compartments are not numbered, everything was fine and it was a special experience to cruise across the country in this vehicle in glorious weather.

From the booking to the introduction date to the return, everything was uncomplicated and worked out excellently. It was a great pleasure to be able to drive out in this beautiful and perfectly maintained car: Pure deceleration and nostalgia! The car is not only a bijou, it is also very reliable and comfortable and suitable for longer trips. Our journey took us from Kemptthal to the Côte d'Azur and back. We travelled mostly overland, but were also able to keep up well on the motorway. Driving the Goddess was great fun! Many thanks to the Rent a Classic team! MN
